Creating a Unique Floral Design Wire Crochet Statement Necklace

This floral design one of a kind wire crochet statement necklace was all my Husbands fault. Bless his heart!

I sent him to the store to get me more 28 gauge silver jewelry wire to finish a the pearl and shell necklace I was finishing up. When he came home he was like a Kid with a bunch of wilted picked posies behind his back with the anouncement, "Look what I Found!"

To anyone who knows my husband, this could be anything from a dead porcupine to a bag full of money, which would be presented just as enthusiastically in either case.

I cautiously accepted the now outstretched twisted up bag and found to my pleasant surprise it was full of color coated copper wire.

I had never worked with this before so I was a bit puzzled as to what could be done with it, but after a few minutes I realized that with forty years of crochet under my belt I shouldn't have any problem figuring out what to do with this new found plunder.

I did a search or two for wire crochet jewelry and was a bit surprised that there was a lot of crochet jewelry being made with wire but it was not exactly evenly done, I gather the style is to crochet it loosely with a bead or two woven in here or there.

That wouldn't do for me so I just strung up some beads on a wire and began crocheting as I have always done, keeping gauge and tension in mind as with any piece I would do.

Being practical also, I could see there would be problems with the wire necklace holding it's shape so I topped it off with a nice leather cord around the top to stabilize it and add a bit of comfort to the wearer who doesn't like the feeling of a wire snare around their neck.

The flower was a good deal of fun, I just used the usual flower pattern for any quilt or throw you would crochet normally and used a bunch of wired beads for the center. I then wire wrapped a couple of leaf looking beads from the Ole Bead Stash, tacked them on and Voila! My first wire crochet necklace!

HERE is the link to the actual listing if you are interested in purchasing this necklace and the description from my Etsy ad is below.

Colorful wire floral crochet designer necklace. Fire red, gold and copper wire combine to create this unique statement elegant yet bold choker collar necklace. Colorful accent beads add color and subtle flair and is topped with black leather crochet cord for added comfort and stability.

Leather and Lace combine in the wire crochet floral creation. The leather cord provides stability and comfort, keeping the wire crochet snugly in place. The coated colored copper wire is tarnish proof and the brilliant reflective color ranges from firey red and fuchsia, then shifts from copper and woven in colorful beads to shimmering golden tones that looks like fine lace but is much more stable. The delicate looking center floral pendant is strongly crocheted and woven to keep it's shape wear after wear for years on end and still look great!

The 16.5" Choker Necklace is closed by a leather cord with blue accent beads that tie simply at the back and holds securely.  This is the latest fashion look with a floral twist!

This necklace is also easy to clean, just place it under gently running cold water for a few seconds and lay flat to dry on an absorbent surface such as a towel to refresh and renew its glow!

This unique fashion statement can be worn with jeans and a crop top or with that lovely black evening sheath with equal grace and appeal.

NOTE: Some unscrupulous sellers on the net are using seller photos and listings from etsy on other sites claiming to be the makers and offering to make this item custom for you. Alibaba is notorious for doing this as well as many other sites.

Pearls center added on top and rest of purchased wired pendant used as backing.
While I have no objection to anyone using my processes to make jewelry similar to mine, (or I wouldn't post the tutorial), stealing pictures, descriptions and posting them as "ME" is wrong.

Always make sure if you are on a site that you are dealing with the REAL artist. Drop them a note, start a conversation and if it doesn't feel right or the price is extremely low, you are probably not dealing with the original Artisan.

Real designer jewelry costs real money. I back every piece I sell, if for any reason you need repairs or are unhappy with a purchase, I will GLADLY do whatever I can to make it right.

My reputation is worth more to me than any money I could ever make on a sale.

My jewelry is handmade and I sell no where else but Etsy.

From Zero to Hero, Remaking a Sea Glass Tropical Choker Mother of Pearl Stick Beads Choker That Just Didin't Quite Cut It!

Sometimes you just have to admit defeat on a project and start over. From scratch. The necklace in the picture below was a case in point.

Sure, it looked good in theory but I made the mistake of wearing it for a day at the beach and it flopped all over the place and looked awful. I hate to admit it, being of an Artist temperament and all, but this one was a dog in practice.

The Hot Mess Itself - Bow Wow!
But what to do? It took me all of several months to come up with a design that would hold such necklaces in place properly, (I do love my bead fringes and dangle drops), but they are generally a pain in the butt to wear and not have them turn into a hot mess after a few minutes of wear.

I started by rethinking what was needed to hold elements in place, crochet seemed obvious but how to integrate two strands into the third crochet strand?

Well, I'm not giving up my secrets here, it took me many days of agonizing experiments to come up with something that would do the trick and still look good.

I've decide to make an entire line of this type of choker jewelry because it's design is authentic and new. It's just for those Gals who love their dangle beads and fringe look but don't want things sticking out all over the place at odd angles just because you bent over or breathed.

The moral of all this is: Even if you have an item in your shop that has been up for months, don't be afraid to remake it into something new. I have done this with several of my pieces now, they are being favorited left and right and soon i expect some sales to discriminating buyers who know quality and a glad to pay for it.

Anyway, here is the relisting for those interested below the link to this necklace choker in my Esty shop is HERE.

Creating Sea Shell Abalone Paua MOP Stick Bead Tribal Choker

Original design being laid out
Beautiful, but the ribbon speaks too loudly, off to the dye bath!
This is the beginning of a New Line of Jewelry I will be creating over the next several months, it features the best of crochet used to fortify and stabilize unusual combinations of shell elements that normally have a great deal of difficulty remaining in place when worn. By adding the crochet ribbon the two strands unify and the textile helps to "nestle" the beads into proper position with minimal movement, yet a limited freedom of motion still remains in motion.

This will allow me the freedom to add dangles and drops with abandon without worrying about them flipping all over the place while being worn or danced in, there is nothing worse at the Powwow than having to constantly adjust ones regalia!

Originally the ribbon was stark white but I felt it overwhelmed the design, so off the to dye bath of natural henna to tone it down and bring it back to matching instead of overpowering the piece!

I look forward to experimenting with new textiles and crochet to enhance Doyle already lovely and timeless creations, this design is so powerful I've already had my first sale because of its unique design! You can see this necklace HERE.

I will be glad to customize this necklace any way you need it to make it more your won personal taste or design a special necklace just for you! I have already done so for a customer in Tasmania!

The Driftwood colored Smooth Stone 50mm, (2") pendant adds focus and strength to this piece reflecting the abalone shell pieces at the shoulder that also have subtle naturally occurring doughnut holes in them.

The Antiqued Violet Lavender Gold Flecked Silky Crochet Ribbon Influence adds color, texture and stability, keeping the individual elements snugly in place while allowing limited, flowing movement reflecting the natural hue of colors of the abalone shell that shifts from electric blue to lavender and then to shimmering red and  green tones.

Cosmic Galaxy Shell Macrame Choker Necklace

Add caption

Here's a fun project I just had to try, I used to make Macrame Necklaces back in Sixties, they were all the rage! Especially popular were Choker necklaces with some sort of macrame wrapped pendant.

This necklace goes all the way with a Carved Conch  Pendant that I likened to a Comet, (or perhaps a weird Sea Creature), Doyle won the toss when he agreed it looked more like a Meteor.

The Macrame choker is going to be the base of many a future project, it's a simple design that I found drapes very well and has a unique look all its own! I love using industrial Findings for the closure instead of the usual knotted or buttoned clasp, it gives it a more modern edgy take!

This necklace is available in my Etsy Shop here.

The Pendant is 2.5" wide without tail, 3.75" wide including.
Choker Necklace is 16.5 inches long and features Solid Copper 15mm Toggle Clasp

This Choker would look great with your Casual Boho Dress or equally shine in your Fashionably Worn Jeans, Hippie Shirt or Home Made Galaxy T Shirt.

The Carved Design of the Conch Pendant actually represents an Ancient Swirling Depiction of the Galaxy Spiraling it's way across the Universe.

This Necklace was made from Conch Shells Hand Collected by my Husband and Myself, my Husband cut the Pendant from the Heart of the Conch Shell, He then Shaped and Hand Polished it to Perfection.
